Taking Control of Your Archive
The Canvas theme now exposes a dedicated settings panel for each custom post type archive — Insights, Imports, and Posts — directly inside the WordPress Customizer. No page builders, no shortcodes, no custom fields to hunt down. Everything that shapes how your archive looks and behaves lives in one place, and changes preview in real time before you publish.
Labels, Slugs, and Breadcrumbs
Each post type ships with a Plural Label, Singular Label, and Archive URL Slug that are fully yours to rename. Change "Insights" to "Articles" and the archive URL updates from /insights/ to /articles/ — save and revisit to lock it in. A Parent Page setting lets you nest the archive under an existing page, so breadcrumbs read Home › Resources › Articles instead of jumping straight to the top level. Every insight detail page inherits that breadcrumb automatically.
Hero Types
The archive hero is where the first impression is made. Four styles are available: Default (Text Only) keeps it clean with a title and description; 50/50 pairs your headline with an image side by side; Background Image stretches a full-bleed photo behind the text; and Simple strips everything back to just the title. Selecting any style with an image unlocks a dedicated hero image picker and moves the search and filter bar out of the hero into its own full-width band below — keeping the visual impact of the image intact while the filters stay accessible.
Search, Filters, and the Featured Strip
When a hero with an image is active, the archive gains a separate search bar section with a keyword field, a category dropdown, and a year-range slider. Filters collapse into a clean sidebar when running in text-only mode. Either way, a featured post — flagged from the post editor — surfaces between the hero and the filter bar as a 50/50 spotlight, giving editors a consistent way to pin the most important piece of content without touching any code.
Layout and Sort
The post list itself supports three view modes per post type: List for a structured editorial feel, Card Grid for visual browsing, and Simple for a lightweight link-style index. Visitors can sort by newest, oldest, or title A–Z / Z–A at any time. Results count updates live as filters are applied, and a clear-filters button appears the moment any active filter is in play.
Enabling and Disabling Post Types
Each post type can be toggled off entirely from its settings panel. When disabled, all archive and detail URLs redirect to the home page, the admin menu item disappears, and no existing posts are deleted — flip the switch back on and everything is exactly where it was. Useful for staging a new content type before it goes live, or quietly retiring one without a hard delete.
